War hammer 40k Mod
Hello all im brand new to this forum and i have to say thank you for everyone and the information they have posted here. I am a pretty new modder to killing floor but since i purchased it and played it i have been toying around an idea and i am going to start bringing this mod idea to reality.
War Hammer 40k Basically its a space marines Vs tyranid mod where the zombies are replaced with tyranids and players now get to play as Blackwatch Space marines and battle across space hulks at first and then possibly planets infested by the Hive mind. I find the killing floor mechanics and the game itself would work very well with this idea and would love some feedback from everyone.
So far the team consists of Myself/R3DSKULL: production oversight and anything else i learn to do. my backround is i have developed a private server for Perfect world so i have some knowledge in game development.
R3DRAVEN: He is a long time friend and cohort and an expert at the warhammer 40k boardgames he is an active tester and consultant for all that is warhammer.
I am looking for input or help from anyone interested in working with us.
Give me your feedback and be easy i'm new. :)
Oh and so far i have come up with the name for the mod INTO THE WARP

no comments or replies?
Well id hope people are more interested in the idea and want to discuss it a bit more. Hemi and idnoise have that rpg mod and thats a brilliant idea to setup an rpg style im curious about how that was done im trying to decide if the mod would progress better with RPG element i.e. going from scout,to space marine, to terminator armor to dreadnaught, so on, or i should stay simple and just replace exsisting classes.
Atm im still sorting out game play and attempting the beginning work on modeling, replacing what zombies will be what tyranids and what guns will get replaced by what weapons. I know the chainsaw will be a chainsword, and im hoping to get a solid replacement of the katana with lighting claws.

Heya, don't think nobody is replying :P Most people may not be online during the weekends, or someone just coulda not seen this thread. Anyways, sounds like a cool mod. I've played quite a bit of warhammer 40K myself, so if you need any testing, I'll gladly help :D ----------------

Re: War hammer 40k Mod
I was waiting for whisky to reply first, since He's like the all knowing god when it comes to KF modding. But then it didn't happen; so here's my 2 cents. Warhammer I really, really like for its Lore and the story/universe behind it. The tabletop game...not so much. expensive and hella complicated to get into. The Dawn of War franchise though, is one of my favourite RTS's. Between the Dark Eldar, Chaos Marines and the Tyranids, there would be an awesome selection of enemies, and the weapons are just plain sexy (Twin Linked bolter rifles is just an awesome concept. For anyone unaware: the "bullets" are high density, probably uranium, shells propelled by rockets). In short I love the idea. Now the downside. Now I am not qualified by any means to speak for others, but their hands are kinda already filled with running the mods we have already in place (dead space, wolfenstein, and the new secret server thats a secret to anyone who can read), so I'm not sure how much help we can be. But I'm just talking cautiously while letting you know you have my personal support. And by "my personal support" I mean I would whip up a couple of themed maps for it. Its about all I can do with the SDK Also If I have time I want to touch weapon mods one day. ---------------- It's a Squash! I swear!

Re: War hammer 40k Mod
Thanks mate I appreciate every one's feedback. One thing i know from game development is baby steps, one thing at a time. Right now im just taking in the community and getting feedback and putting the big picture together, my first goal is really to learn the perimeters of what can and cannot be modified within killing floor i.e. its hardcoded limitations. Then how complex and how simple i want to go and what will be doable and what will be fun. Ive kind of mentally got the big picture and have been working on how its going to go.
Basically its starting with replacing all zombies with tyranids. Maybe later i will consider other races but for now i want to keep the zombie replacement simple and more focused on remodeling and reanimating the zombies into tyranids. As for the mapping that will come later. I also will work on remodeling guns and animations and effects. The hardest part is going to be how to work marine progression, as i said before seeing what Hemi and idnoise have done with the RPG opens up a lot for me in terms of gameplay and progression ideas. Since in cannon warhammer it progresses in a very linear fashion, not so much class base but i have to be realistic in terms of what i can accomplish and how it effects gameplay.
At the moment id love the idea of starting as a scout and progressing to space marine and unlocking abiliteis to say be a apothocary/medic or beserker/assualt marine so on then progressing to a final unlock of terminator armor as only the best marines get this armor. Seeing the RPG mod that idnoise and hemi made opens up this new development of the perk system but at the same time i realize i have alot to learn.
I also understand many are busy in the community with thier own projects and what id love is just to have people who can answer questions or steer me in good directions when i get stuck or even get on teamspeak and chat about modeling and technical details so on.
and thank you for your offer of help E-hero i will very likely take you up on it in the near future.

Re: War hammer 40k Mod
Ill speak for myself when saying I really only mod stuff that I have a personal interest in. These mods take up tons of time, eg the deadspace mod took 6-8 months to build...and is still not done. Even helping someone to do this themselves is a task that takes up allot of time. Decompile code or use the source on the RPG mod to create a base for your mod. I myself are working on a new project that will take some time(eternal wave based mod aswell, like the rpg one...only superior), and im still responsible for all the Aliens in the Aliens modded Server. So I dont have allot of time on my hands. Keep us posted on your work, and we will try and help out when we can. Thats the only advice I can give you atm. ----------------

Re: War hammer 40k Mod
Hey Guys, if you're still taking feedback? :)
I'm a PC Warhammer 40k player. Played all the classes. Read all the stories. Fought with every army. From the emperor's finest to the galaxies deepest heritics and Xenos.
Blackwitch Marines? :) hmmm i would love that, but there are honorable chapters I would love to see like the Blood ravens, Ultramarines, or maybe the Dark Angels. Since the Tyranids are a overwhelming and destructive force in the universe. I feel as its appropriate to send the 1st legion (Dark Angels) of the 20 legions of marines. They are the most powerful ;]
Aside from that I wanna see alot of input in character model, weapons, class, voice acting, maps, and Tyranid aggressiveness.
Models: I believe to have the full experience playing as a Space Marines, appearence is at most crucial. You want big bulky marines in colors, highlights, emblems, and their chapter's imprints on their armor. Animation in movements, holstering a weapon, firing and moving, etc. Model is a crucial thing. If you don't look like a space marine, you are not a space marine, Imperial soldier.
Weapons: THE BOLTER RIFLE, Heavy BOLTER, Bolter PISTOL, THE COMBAT KNIFE, THE CHAINSWORD. Are probably the most known significant weapon used by the marines themselves. The bulkiness of the bolter rifle, the heaviness of the bolter cannon, lightweight plasma cannon, the swift bulkiness of the chainsword. Sound clarity, Reasonable damage and appropriate damage dealt to tyranids.
Classes:
Tactical Marines - Armed with a bolter rifle, Grenades, and basically the frontlinemen. They are the backbone and they represent the emperor's fist.
Shock Marines - Armed with a chainsword, and bolter pistol, they are the melee, skirmishers, and basically the in your face marines.
Devestator Marines - The marines armed with the heavy bolter cannon. Blasting nonstop rounds and slow moving. A key aspect of the unit in cases of being overrun.
Voice acting: Nothing sounds more rallying then a marine reciting his reason for existance, his fight, his life, and his honor, and that is because of His Emperor. Space marines always chant or yeall battle cries of their emporer's guidance. Their robotic voices is an iconic part of who they are. Clarity please!
Maps - I forgot the famous battlegrounds of most of the wars that happened during the campaign of the space marines. I suggest a ship map where Tyranid swarms has infested a Space marine carrier and the level could be dark and scary. A suggestion :D A jungle map for the tyranids fighting grounds. A wasteland map for different worlds.
Tyranids - The tyranids. Xenomorphs. The scum but deadliest and most potent killer in the universe. Their numbers are unlimited. Their units are the most killer. Their screams. Make them swarm. Make them jump. Make them pin you down and rip your armor open and feed on you. Its only appropriate to see the galaxies most deadliest making ever the emperor's finest wet their pants alittle.
Well so far this i smy only feedback. Please, whenever you have the time, I wanna be a tester really bad. I know what to look for. I would love to see this mod.

Re: War hammer 40k Mod
I could use this in my life, to not get carried away maybe you could start by trying to make it SpaceHulk? The Genestealers would fit really well into KF, as well as most other Tyranids. It would keep the workload more manageable and give you a firm ground to work from? Thats just me! Good luck! ---------------- "Fighting was the only thing... the only thing I was good at.
