Re: SPOILERS!------Prometheus thoughts------SPOILERS - do not read if not seen the movie yet!
Xeno I'm talking about the planet at the start being the test. The main setting is some sort of installation, where it's created/ stored. This stills on the official movie website call him a sacrificial engineer which leads me to now lean more towards it being a deliberate creation of life. ---------------- "Fighting was the only thing... the only thing I was good at. Just got back from the movie : I dont know what the hell to think. On the other hand its a meh-good movie...but for an alien movie (which it is, people should stop denying this) its too clunky. - bad dialogue - staple my tummy and I will not walk for a week maaaam! - scenes feel like they are not coherent with each other. I am not bothered by the fact that the last jockey kills everyone. I think he's is also responsible for the deaths of the other ones. He's just a bad jockey, so thats good imo. The black goo I could care less about. The xeno's were a bioweapon...jeeezzz...like we didnt knew that allready. And how they got to be this way is un-interesting to me. Prometheus has 1 big massive flaw. Its an Alien movie without beeing one. Its not scary at all...builds no characters. Something directors knew how to do in the 70's. Ill gather my thoughts tomorrow for some more in-dept stuff. ----------------

Love that picture Hemi. So I saw it in 3D yesterday, what a fucking waste of money. 3D adds -nothing- and if anything takes away from the movie experience. First and last film I'll see in 3D that's for certain. I can't believe someone sat there and gave the 3D a thumbs up, it was horrible. I agree with Hemi, it's meh at best. Good enough to be added to the DVD collection, yeah probablly. But as movies go. Not a good one. I went in without high expectations so maybe I'm a bit more forgiving. ---------------- Lair Keeper - Long Fang - Pack Keeper

I agree on the "meh" part. Just too much cramped into it, and no characters to relate to. Who are we supposed to like? I didnt mind any of them dying. Personally I did think the 3D was the best part of it, it was our first 3D experience and although it took a little getting used to here and there I thought it looked very beautifull. I think the main failure of this movie lies in what Hemi said, it is an Alien movie without trying to be one but then at the end, tries to be one. I believe Ridley sold out to the fans and that was a last minute decision because from the time he started the script, he was absolute, about it not being an Alien movie.
I also believe one of the other biggest down points of the film, is that he had Damon Lindlorf (sp*) help pen the script. Yep he is the current "Big thing" and had scripted 8 out of the 10 movies on the cinema at the moment and in my opinion, the guy cannot carry a story. Don't get me wrong, he has a great imagination but his writing style requires billions of dollars to pull off and this just doesn't happen, so they rip the best parts from his script and the end results as an incoherent mess. Look at 'Lost' for instance, he wrote enough material to last 20 seasons but this was then cut down to 6 and he didn't know what to do and you can see the exact same thing happen with this film, the end was pointless.
Ridley should have kept any reference about Alien away from this film, allowing him to concentrate on the film as a sole entity, which would have made it a much better film.
p.s.
'Meh' was the exact word I used when I got home and my gf asked me how the film was :D

Quote: Ridley should have kept any reference about Alien away from this film, allowing him to concentrate on the film as a sole entity, which would have made it a much better film. imo he should have either dropped the alien part or just make it 100% an alien movie. Atm its all over the place. For todays standards its not a bad movie...but then again, wtf are todays standards all about? Right...money. When Spielberg made Jaws he had almost 0 budget and was convinced he made a fun flick. That blew up in his face and it became a monster hit. When the first Alien was made they took a similar chance, and it took off like a rocket. The same can be said about Aliens even, Cameron had no clue if the people would accept his version of the alien universe. This gamble method of making movies can only be found in the obscure theaters or the straight to BR or DVD sections nowadays. When was the last time you had a blockbuster movie that was original and blew you away? Like : - Terminator / Terminator 2 - Jurassic Park - Indiana Jones - Alien / Aliens - Star Wars IV - V - Jaws - Predator These are blockbusters created with a huge price tag. And all of them are brilliant movies. These movies took the risk, and made an everlasting impact crater in movie history. Current blockbusters don't even come close, because they are too scarred to take that risk and studio's like Fox want to play it safe. 1 think is certain though...thank god Prometheus is better then AVP/AVP-R. ----------------

I really liked it I thought it was shot really well and the pace was really quick. Also (I know I'll be crucified for this) I thought the giant squid/ octopus thing was really well designed and fairly original and seemed to have me way more interested than the original Alien! I just liked the design more. However I do completely agree with: "imo he should have either dropped the alien part or just make it 100% an alien movie." It's a spin off rather than the prequel we were originally promised. What I don't get is how people can say the Alien at the end is a queen when It obviously isnt, Since when has a queen had a slidy-gum-jaw-thing. ---------------- "Fighting was the only thing... the only thing I was good at. When I first saw the film I walked away from the theater disappointed. I had such mixed feelings and gave it a generous 7/10. I didn't think it was a bad film, but I was expecting a return to Alien's greatness.
After a week I went and saw it a second time and I loved it MUCH more. I don't know it it was because I had some time to think about it, or if it was because I knew not to expect an Alien film, but it really gets better after multiple viewing. I'd give it a good 8.5-9/10 now.
If you do not expect an Alien film then you may appreciate it a lot more, I sure do.

Actually i didn't knew what to expect to see when i watched the trailers. I could tell it was more a space jocky movie than a alien tho. So in general i just went to it with a "ok lets see what they did" mode and for me that got well rewarded. Now i think of it, the "ALIEN" we see at the end doesnt look close to a queen or the drones we know that come from human chestburters. So what ever was the original host for a alien queen and the Xenomorph lifecycle is still unknown at this point :) ---------------- Infinite creativity!!!
